What this is
Trade-in-Favors is a place to post offers and needs for neighbor services and favors. The board only shows the post. The swap is between the people involved. Trade-in-Favors is not a party to any swap, does not employ anyone, and does not guarantee that a person will show up, do good work, or be safe to meet.
Posts are public: anyone who visits can see them. You need a free account (email sign-in, 18+) to post, message, or leave a note. Messages are private between you and the other neighbor.

Who can post
- You must be 18 or older and agree to the Terms of Use.
- You post under the display name on your profile. Do not post someone else’s private information.
What you may post
Neighbor help and skills, such as home, yard, rides, beauty help, allowed food, or skills.
🚫 Not allowed on Trade-in-Favors
- Money of any kind. No cash, payment apps, gift cards, crypto or “deposits.” It’s favors for favors.
- Licensed work without a license. That includes electrical, plumbing, HVAC/A/C, roofing, contracting, pool, pest control, mold, hair, nails, skin, cosmetology, barbering, real estate, legal and tax help. If you hold the license, follow the law, and say so in your post, it’s OK.
- Medical, dental, mental-health, nursing or massage services, even if you’re licensed.
- Childcare or babysitting, or any favor where a child does the work or gets the service.
- Firearms, ammo, weapons, fireworks.
- Alcohol, tobacco, vapes, THC/CBD, drugs, or any medicine (prescription or over-the-counter).
- Live animals. No selling, trading or rehoming.
- Unsafe food. Home food only if it’s the kind your state’s cottage food law allows (like breads, cookies, jams, honey, dry herbs), sealed and labeled. No meat, eggs, dairy, fish, salsa or sauces, cut fruit, or anything that needs the fridge.
- Sexual content or services, dating or escort offers.
- Rides for pay or as a business.
- Stolen, fake, recalled or dangerous items.
- Hate, threats, harassment, scams, spam, or someone else’s private info.
- Anything illegal.
⚠️ Allowed, with extra care
- Home and yard: keep it simple: no ladders on roofs, no tree work near power lines, no gas or electrical. Agree on who brings the tools.
- Cars: basic help only (jump-start, tire swap, washing). Not brakes or steering on someone else’s car unless you’re qualified. Never work under a car that’s only on a jack.
- Rides: no paid rides. The driver must have a valid license and insurance. Both of you ride at your own risk; check that your car insurance covers it.
- Beauty: if your state requires a license for the service, you must hold it and say so in your post.
- Food (including food from local makers): only foods your state’s cottage food law allows, sealed and labeled. No meat, dairy, or perishables.
- Pet help (walks, feeding): share vet info and any bite history up front.
- Local makers & markets: listings aren’t endorsements. Check their permits yourself.
- Kids resources: an information list only. It’s not verified or endorsed by Trade-in-Favors. Always check a provider’s license with your state’s child care licensing agency before using.
- Checking licenses: Whoever receives a service is responsible for checking that the provider holds any license required where they live. Trade-in-Favors doesn’t verify licenses.
- Events: public places only. Hosts are responsible for permits and safety.

Before you say yes
Before you accept or arrange a swap, use the “Before you say yes” list on the board. It isn’t a contract, just a way to avoid a bad swap. Talk through the work, the timing, the tools, who will be there, and what happens if it isn’t finished. The return is a swap, not cash. Skip anything that needs a license you don’t hold. Afterward you can leave a positive note only: “Would recommend” or “Would use again.”
🏡 Before you meet
Meet in public first. Tell a friend. Don’t share your address until you’re comfortable. Never send money. Trust your gut. Emergency? Call 911. Then report the post.
How swaps work
- No money is held by the board.
- “I’m interested” sends a private message to the poster inside Trade-in-Favors. Don’t share your address or phone until you’re comfortable.
- You decide whether to trade.
🧾 Taxes
The IRS counts what you get in a swap as taxable income. Your taxes are yours to handle.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for what you post and for any swap you make. You use the board at your own risk.
🚨 The board’s limit
